Donald Trump has called Norway a “shithouse country” after the Norwegian Nobel Committee failed to offer him the Nobel Peace Prize.

The US president has made his desire for the accolade very clear over the years and repeatedly claimed that he deserves the award after ending “eight wars”.

However, a number of the conflicts he is referring to lasted just a few days and a few have very shaky peace agreements.

Trump also started the Iran war in February, which has rocked the global economy, and still has not managed to end the Russia-Ukraine war despite regularly promising to do so.

The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize went to former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, for her work in “ensuring war crimes, crimes agains humanity and genocide are prosecuted”.

Speaking at a Michigan rally days before Americans vote in the midterm elections, Trump said: “Anybody that would like to come into our country from Denmark, I’m all for it.

“But I must tell you from Somalia, I’ve had it with them.

“I much prefer Denmark I must say. They’ll say, ‘isn’t that a terrible thing?’

“But we must be honest with each other. Denmark – we’ll take them, Sweden...

“Norway? I don’t think so because I didn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize even though I ended eight [wars].

“I’m not in love with Norway, frankly. Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually.”

Trump has previously called Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen all “shithouses”.

He’s also claimed the failure to give him the Nobel Peace Prize left an “indelible stain” on Norway.

The actual 2026 winner, Pillay, mocked Trump for his reaction to her victory after being told she had won, saying earlier this month: “If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump.”

The 2025 winner, Venezulea’s opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, gave her medal to the US president in January.

🤡 “Norway sucks”: Trump still can't get over not winning the Nobel Peace Prize

The US president expressed outrage that last year's award went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado instead of him.

“Norway has become a shithouse country,” Trump said. https://t.co/3WCDIBlXOfpic.twitter.com/VxbkQ8aEA0
