I don't have a particularly strong connection with A Different World, the 1980s sitcom which began as a spinoff of The Cosby Showbefore growing into its own. Following an ensemble group of students at Hillman College, the show dealt with life in HBCUs in the late '80s and early '90s, unafraid to touch on subjects like racism, class relations, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic happening in real life at the time. It made the show stand out not only for its memorable characters, but also for its willingness to tackle difficult subjects in a sitcom setting.
