2025 has already been a pretty good year for movies. There have been must-see hits like Sinners,Kpop Demon Hunters, and Weapons (plus unexpected successes like Final Destination: Bloodlines, The Naked Gun, and Companion), but not enough people are talking about one of the best movies of the year: Steven Soderbergh’s romantic spy thriller Black Bag, which is now (rightfully) flying up the charts on Prime Video. Soderbergh also directed one of 2025’s most conceptually interesting movies, the “ghost story told from the perspective of the ghost” movie Presence, but while that movie seemed more interesting than it was, Black Bag is quietly more interesting — and more clever — than it seems.
