Perhaps in an effort to test the waters for a future live-action adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, Disney debuted the 2020 filmed version of the Broadway show in theaters this week. The response was spectacular, to say the least. Hamilton has been a perennial favorite on Disney+ for five years now, having debuted on the platform in 2020. Disney had struck a $75 million deal to release the film on streaming, at a time when several major studios were offloading their titles because of the theatrical crisis that the industry was experiencing.
