I used to be a cleaner – so you might assume that means my home is constantly sparkling.

Far from it, I’m afraid. I’ve turned to quick fixes like the “one-minute rule” to keep my house moderately presentable, though that doesn’t get me all the way there.

Because, let’s be honest, there’s no way to achieve a spotless abode without at least a touch of trickery, which is why I was so pleased to read a post shared to  by u/GirlyCupid.

“What’s your ‘lazy cleaning hack’ you’d actually admit to friends?” it read.

Here are some of the most-upvoted replies:

1) “I put [tin]foil on shelves in my fridge that hold meat and or things that could leak.”

“Also, I stopped using the word lazy because, let’s be real, we aren’t lazy. We have limited capacity and energy. That isn’t laziness.”

2) “Newspaper covers the tops of all my cupboards (the space between the ceiling and the cupboard).”

“I change them out two or three times a year. It captures all the dust and grease, and it then gets used as fire starter paper.”

3) “I keep washing-up liquid in the shower.”

“On days when I’m deep conditioning my hair, I wash the walls off with washing-up liquid and rinse with the shower head.

“When the shower is turned off, I squeegee the walls and tub to help remove soap scum from the walls. The only time it gets deep cleaned is when our cleaner comes once a month.”

4) “I’ve been cleaning during those commercials you can’t skip.”

“You can’t get all that much done in two minutes, but if you binge-watch as much as I do, then it adds up. It also increases overall activity.”

5) “I use a toilet brush (it’s never been used on the toilet) to clean my tub so I don’t have to get on my knees or in the tub to do it.”

6) “Installed a water softener. I haven’t cleaned limescale on anything for two years.”

“We have hard water and not having to scrub three toilets, descale kettles or deal with those stupid hard water dots on counters made it the best thing I ever bought.”

7) “I keep a pack of wipes under the bathroom sink so that I can wipe the counter while brushing my teeth.”

“Not proud, but it keeps things looking even without a ‘real’ clean.”

8) “I vacuum daily because of allergies and keep a vacuum on each level of the house.

“A robot vacuum cleaner used daily is best, IMO,”  added.

“It forces us to keep the floors neat with no random stuff to stop the robot vacuum cleaner. Absolutely love it and totally worth it.”
