But the reality is they are also a great source of high-quality protein; as well as choline (which is great for brain development); and vitamins A, D and B12.
So it’s well worth finding ways to introduce them into your diet – providing you’re not allergic.
Over the years, Redditors have debated the best ways to do this without having to endure the jelly-like texture straight up.
Here’s what they suggested.
1. Egg fried rice
Egg fried rice is made by stir-frying cooked rice with scrambled eggs, onions and seasoning.
“I’d scramble them real fine into a fried rice. You’ll obtain the protein and won’t really notice the texture or taste inside the fried rice.” – Goblue5891x2
“That reminds me of golden egg fried rice. You coat the rice in eggs yolks then fry the rice. No eggy texture, just soft and crispy rice.” – MarshmaIIowJeIIo
2. French toast
French toast is basically sliced bread which is then soaked in an egg-milk mixture (usually flavoured with sugar and cinnamon) before being pan-fried.
“Take a slice of bread with a firm but not hard body. Cut it into thick slices. Dip in milk and egg wash. Sprinkle a touch of salt on it. Melt butter in a pan or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook until slightly brown, flip and remove from heat after brown. Goes well with salsa, tomato jam, cheese or the typical breakfast meats. If you prefer a bit more punch, add a bit of garlic salt, season-all, or cayenne powder to the egg wash.” – D3M410
3. Shakshuka
Shakshuka teams up protein-rich eggs with tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic and spices (think cumin, paprika and cayenne pepper).
“I don’t eat a lot of eggs, but I love them in Shakshuka and in ramen!” – klutzyrogue
4. Dutch baby pancakes
A Dutch baby pancake is a bit like a Yorkshire pudding. Nigella’s recipe uses eggs, sugar, milk, flour, vanilla extract, salt, nutmeg and butter. The pancake is cooked in the oven, rather than on the hob.
“Look up Dutch baby pancakes, they have a ton of eggs but have a totally different texture due to the milk and flour.” – Voctus
“These are delicious!! I don’t like eggs at all either and love Dutch baby pancakes.” – New_Chard9548
5. Spanish tortilla
A Spanish tortilla (or Spanish omelette) is made up of potato, egg, onion, olive oil and salt.
“I know someone who hates eggs but loves Spanish tortilla, so I was coming to make that suggestion.” – mwmandorla
“It’s way more potatoes (and oil) than it is eggs so it’s maybe less eggy than a quiche.” – erallured
