Rolling Stone released four photos from The Bone Temple set. Two of the photos feature Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Ian Kelson and Chi Lewis-Parry as Samson, both of whom survived the events of 28 Years Later.

Jack O’Connell is also back as Sir Jimmy Crystal, the enigmatic cult leader with a group of followers known as the Jimmies. O’Connell’s character is seen walking with director Nia DaCosta in one of the set photos.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple picks up shortly after the events of 28 Years Later, which saw Spike (Alfie Williams) encounter Jimmy and his cult. Spike is forced to join Jimmy’s cult, which is “on a collision course with Dr. Kelson and his Alpha virus-carrier Samson.”

Nia DaCosta directs The Bone Temple from a script by Alex Garland. DaCosta called The Bone Temple “bonkers,” while O’Connell explained how The Bone Temple blurs the lines between protagonists and antagonists.

“This film is the weird, deranged cousin to 28 Years Later, who you might be a bit ashamed of because they have weird, questionable interests,” O’Connell said to Rolling Stone. “We see how much nature is the unstoppable force at the end of the day. Nature prevails. The world will take its natural course with or without humans. But I don’t think the infected are purely antagonists in our film. It definitely will make you consider that.”

Cillian Murphy is expected to appear as Jim, one of the survivors of the outbreak in 28 Days Later.

Danny Boyle, who directed 28 Days Later and 28 Years Later, will produce The Bone Temple alongside Garland, Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, and Bernie Bellew.

Released in June, 28 Years Later received mostly positive reviews and grossed over $150 million worldwide.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 16, 2026.
