The history of animated films is generally agreed to have begun in 1908 with Émile Cohl's short, Fantasmagorie. In the nearly 130 years since this 1-minute-and-45-second short was made, animated films have grown into massive projects as diverse as the directors and artists that bring them to life. They're able to make audiences feel the same kind of emotions as they would for characters made of flesh and blood, and several animated efforts even rank among the greatest films ever made.
