Television has been around for a while, of course, but television rivaling the best of what the cinematic world has to offer is a newer phenomenon. It didn’t necessarily start with HBO, but HBO certainly helped a great deal, especially when it came to production value and truly cinematic visuals. But before HBO’s best dramas, some network TV shows worked with more modest budgets and instead focused on elevating writing.
