There are multiple different ways for a fantasy book to enshrine itself as one of the genre's greatest works. Perhaps it can be through intricately detailed world-building, or through deeply nuanced and compelling character work, or through plotting that is irresistibly exciting and makes for an absolute page-turner from start to finish. There is one other way, however, that sometimes doesn't get nearly as much love as it deserves: Beautiful, meaningful, and functional prose.
