Many comedy TV series aim to keep the audience lulled into a sense of ease. Problems present themselves, but they are quickly and happily resolved. Cringe-comedies, however, are a different breed. With these shows, the audience never knows when the next embarrassing, socially-awkward, or distressing event on screen will make them cringe along with the cast, aching for the torturous moment to end. And no one mastered this kind of comedy like Steve Carell did with the character of Michael Scott, the Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company from The Office.
