Comic books were originally created as entertainment primarily for young children. Some people don’t like to admit it, but it’s true. Let’s face it, a radioactive insect biting a teenage boy to give him superpowers, a billionaire adopting a young orphan and teaching him to fight crime and a group of people getting together to fight a giant starfish is the kind of stuff which can only seem plausible to a child. Or so it would seem. Like any good form of storytelling, as the audience for comic books grew up, they have taken the medium with them, crafting new stories that deal with more adult subject matter.
