Since a miniseries is just about always longer than a movie (well, the majority of movies), but considerably shorter than most multi-season shows (again, most of the time), it’s not surprising that many of the best miniseries out there scratch the same itch as great cinema does. There used to be some separation between “TV actors” and “movie actors,” too, but that’s broken down quite a bit in the past few decades. It didn’t start with True Detective or anything, but the first season of that was a clear indication, since it aired not long after Matthew McConaughey won an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club, and not long before he was in Interstellar. Woody Harrelson was there, too.
