White Lotus fans waiting for their next instalment of sun-drenched chaos definitely have reason to get excited this week.

On Wednesday evening, it was announced by US broadcaster HBO that production was underway on the upcoming fourth iteration of The White Lotus.

It was previously announced that the next season would be shot at a luxury resort in the south of France, with rumours suggesting it would be set over the course of the Cannes Film Festival, and feature various characters associated with the film industry.

This was confirmed in HBO’s teaser clip, which mixed footage of the location’s lavish surroundings with what appeared to be a red carpet set-up.

An official synopsis for the new episodes has also teased: “The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.”

The star-studded cast has also finally been confirmed, including recognisable names like Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Coogan, Kumail Nanjiani and Black Swan’s Vincent Cassel, alongside more up-and-coming names like Caleb Jonte Edwards, Marissa Long, and Corentin Fila.

“Additional cast” members are set to include the likes of Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Chloe Bennet and Rosie Perez.

Creator and showrunner Mike White has claimed that his recent return to the reality show Survivor inspired what we could see on screen in The White Lotus’ next outing.

“I don’t know if that’s exactly the theme of the next season of White Lotus, but it’s definitely something I’ve thought about a lot – prioritising likes or the attention of strangers over creating real relationships,” he previously told W magazine.

Pressed on what the new season could be about, he noted: “It’s a bit about fame, about who has the world’s attention, who is the plus-one, and how that can organise a relationship.

“Some people are satisfied with the love of just an intimate partner, and some people need the love of strangers and a bigger kind of attention.”

The White Lotus’ fourth season is expected to hit our screens in 2027, with the first three iterations currently available to stream on Sky, Now and HBO Max in the UK.
