Paramount has slammed Netflix, who were the frontrunner in acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery prior to the intervention of the California-based company, for launching a “scorched-earth campaign” against it. The David Ellison-led organization has reportedly submitted a letter, accusing Netflix of trying to “poison regulators” against its $110 billion merger with WBD.

Paramount hits back at Netflix for backlash against Warner Bros. deal

Paramount Skydance has issued a note to the US Department of Justice, wherein the company blasted Netflix for attempting to sabotage its deal with Warner Bros. Sent by their Chief Legal Officer, Makan Delrahim, to Jared A. Hughes and A. Maya Khan, the letter claims that Netflix has been trying to “poison regulators and other stakeholders against” the WBD deal.

According to a recent report published by TheWrap, the note also cited that Netflix’s apparent “panic-level response” clearly indicates that the streaming giant views Paramount as “a scaled competitor.”

Also replying to those opposing the deal, Delrahim’s letter mentioned that Paramount’s deal with Warner Bros. Discovery will not only boost job opportunities in the sector, but will also allow the company to provide competition to Netflix and other streaming services.

“Organized labor will directly benefit from the new competitive energy and increased content investment that the combined firm will bring to the entertainment industry,” Makan Delrahim wrote in the note. “The transaction’s positive impacts on organized labor flow naturally from the business logic that drives the underlying deal. Paramount wants to combine with WBD to create a stronger, more efficient competitor that will operate at scale and take on Netflix and the other streaming giants.”

Paramount’s topmost legal consultant further argued that the deal with Warner Bros. Discovery would also push other media giants, such as Netflix, Disney, Sony, and more, to enhance “their own content creation strategies.”

Notably, Paramount’s dig at Netflix comes after the company filed a motion in court to dismiss a lawsuit seeking to block its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
