Set 15 years before the events in Dexter, the show explored the early struggles with his dark urges. He learned to channel these urges with the help of his father, Harry.

When Original Sin aired on December 13, 2024, it garnered excellent viewership. Viewers hailed the show as Showtime’s most-streamed series in 10 years. The season finale witnessed 2.68 million viewers, which was up by 27% from the premiere. Considering the success, it was renewed for a second season. But the studio decided to cancel the show a few months later.

Reports suggest that a few reasons led to the decision. The main reason is that Original Sin didn’t meet the viewership of Dexter: Resurrection. It’s a sequel series to Dexter: New Blood and Dexter, and brings back Hall in the titular role.

Resurrection had garnered 4.4 million viewers in just the first week. So, Paramount prioritized producing Resurrection over Original Sin.

Analysts speculate that the Skydance-Paramount merger in July 2025 gravely affected the show’s future. Even after the announcement of the second season in April, the pre-production never took off. According to a report on Variety, the series was on a hiatus, with no schedule for filming.

Currently, there are talks about a possible second season of Dexter: Resurrection. There are no official announcements for it, but it remains a possibility.
