Season 3 ran from June 21 to August 9, 2026. It had a total of eight episodes. Recently, streaming platforms have adopted split-season release strategies. However, House of the Dragon Season 3 followed a traditional weekly release schedule. All eight of its episodes premiered on their scheduled release dates and times.

The last episode of HOTD 3 showed clashes between the Hightowers of Tumbleton and Daemon Targaryen’s forces. Towards the close of the episode, Rhaenyra discovered that Helaena had died after jumping off a window. Rhaenyra looked at the tapestry Helaena was weaving before she died. It consisted of two depictions made side by side.

The first one showcased a grieving woman with blonde hair wearing a royal court gown falling from a tower. This image bore a resemblance to the Red Keep of King’s Landing, and it appeared that Helaena was foretelling her own death. The second image showed Rhaenyra seated on the Iron Throne with blood and fire in the background.

Aside from new episodes, fans wanted to know if the series will roll out more installments. HBO announced House of the Dragon’s fourth and final season in November 2025. Showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed in a recent interview that Season 4 may be shorter than expected.

He told Business Insider that it is difficult to say goodbye and fans have various ideas for a satisfying ending. “So I think for us, it’s really, how do we take these eight hours that we have left—eight chapters that we have left—and tell a compelling, satisfying story that ties up as many of the threads as we’re able to, but also leaves with sort of wistful open-endedness at the end of it to make you yearn for more, in a good way? That’s the thing we’re aiming for,’ Condal added.

House of the Dragon Season 4 is expected to release in 2028.
