Opponents of Charlie Kirk known as ‘Groypers’, who did not think he was right-wing enough, are being blamed for his murder.

The far-right movement ran by Nick Fuentes has been accused of being linked to suspected shooter Tyler Robinson by unverified social media accounts.

It comes after Fuentes ordered his followed to target conservative events aligned with President Donald Trump.

Charlie Kirk hosted a series of these in 2019, and was heckled by Fuentes and his followers who yelled homophobic and antisemitic questions.

They were banned from attending events ran by Turning Point USA, which was founded by Kirk, so Fuentes set up his own conference.

But he has disputed claims he or his followers are responsible for Kirk’sdeath, who was shot while visiting Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

He said: ‘My followers and I are currently being framed for the murder of Charlie Kirk by the mainstream media based on literally zero evidence.

‘To all of my followers, if you take up arms, I disavow you. I disown you in the strongest possible terms.’

What is a Groyper?

Groypers emerged in 2019 as a far-right political movement in 2019 under Nick Fuentes.

They characterise themselves as ‘American nationalists’, and have similar beliefs to white supremacist and alt-right groups.

They believe white Americans are under threat and the US should close its border.

Groypers also oppose feminism, LGBTQ+ rights and argued both Trump and Kirk were not right-wing enough.

Fuentes even ‘declared war’ on Trump’s presidential campaign and opposed his support of Israel.

A number of Groypers were named as the Capitol Hill rioters on January 6 2021.

What does Groyper mean?

Groypers are named after a racist version of the ‘Pepe’ meme, which ahs become affiliated with the alt-right.

Was Tyler Robinson a Groyper?

The rumour Tyler Robinson was a Groyper came from a photograph where he is crouching in a black tracksuit, similar to that of Pepe the Frog.

One person wrote on X: ‘Tyler Robinson dressed up as a slavic groyper meme for Halloween, this is conclusive enough proof for me that he was a rightwing 4chan incel.’

Not much has been confirmed about Tyler Robinson’s political beliefs.

The bullets used to fire at Kirk allegedly had anti-fascist and pro-transgender ideology written on them.

He was unaffiliated with any party, and did not vote during the 2024 presidential election.
