Regardless of whether you prefer Tesco, Aldi, or Asda for your shopping, there’s one thing I’m sure we can all agree on.
The in-store bakery is the best section in any supermarket.
Lidl is well-known for its cheap 59p sweet treats, while M&S regularly goes viral for its cookies and doughnuts.
But it seems Waitrose is making a bid to become the nation’s favourite, as the retailer is revamping its bakery section, introducing 16 brand new items and bringing back ‘the best supermarket cookie ever’.
What’s new in Waitrose’s bakery section?
Waitrose is jumping on the croissant hype, becoming the first supermarket to launch Croissant Cubes (£2.25) in the UK, and they come in two flavours.
There’s a Pistachio Croissant Cube, made with croissant dough and filled with pistachio crème. The whole thing is then topped with fondant icing and nibbed pistachios.
There’s also a Raspberry Croissant Cube filled with raspberry jam and topped with freeze-dried raspberries.
Several new cookies could rival the M&S offering, including three Loaded Cookies and a Crookie.
The loaded cookies are priced at £1.50 each, and customers can choose from Chocolate & Caramel, Blueberry Cheesecake and Pistachio & Raspberry.
Alternatively, the Raspberry & White Chocolate Crookie (£1.80) combines two icons for those who can’t choose between a cookie and a croissant; you can have both. For this, a croissant is filled with raspberry jam and then topped with a white chocolate and raspberry cookie before being baked.
Other new items include Cranberry & Pistachio Oat cookies (£2.40 for four), an Almond Pain au Chocolat (£2), an Apricot & Almond Pastry (£1.80), a Rhubarb & Custard Pastry (£1.80), a Vanilla Custard Crown (£1.80), a Pear & Custard Pastry (£1.80), plus a Salted Caramel Yum Yum (£1).
Several new cakes are also joining the line-up, with a very on-trend Matcha & Raspberry Cake, a Carrot Loaf Cake, and a Victoria Sponge Cake (all £2).

Fan-favourites are also making a comeback
If this weren’t enough, Waitrose is bringing back its viral Cereal Milk Cookies.
Priced at £2.40 for a pack of four, the cookies contain Belgian white chocolate chunks, cornflakes, and multi-coloured sprinkles.
In reviews online, they’ve been hailed as ‘cookie perfection’, ‘the best cookies ever sold in supermarkets’, and many have been begging the retailer to bring them back for months.
Waitrose has also announced it’s expanding its partnership with Danish bakery chain, Ole & Steen, rolling out the beloved Cinnamon Social and several other pastries to 15 more shops, taking the total to 50 across the UK.

Speaking about the new baked goods, Elizabeth Greenman, bakery product developer at Waitrose, said: ‘We know our customers are craving next-level indulgence, so we’re transforming our patisserie with the hottest bakery trends. This includes UK supermarket firsts like the Parisian-inspired Raspberry and White Chocolate Crookie and our stunning, Instagram-ready Croissant Cubes, alongside truly loaded cookies and the new Matcha & Raspberry Cake.
‘We’re delivering the artisanal quality everyone loves, but at a fraction of the price of your favourite bakeries.’
The vast majority of these items are available to buy in-store right now, but Loaded Cookies will be launching in July.
Which supermarket bakery is your favourite?
This comes after Cadbury unveiled two brand new Dairy Milk desserts for the summer.
The brand has taken the Cadbury Dairy Milk Pots of Joy you already know and love, and upgraded them.
There are two new ‘made to share’ pots, which feature extra add-ins.
The first has Twirl chocolate pieces, while the other features mini Oreo biscuits.
Both sweet treats are available to buy now in Sainsbury’s supermarkets.
The 345g pots are usually priced at £3.50, but are currently on offer for those with a Nectar Card, for just £2.75 each.
You can also purchase them in Tesco, for £3.50, or for the slightly reduced price of £3 each at Morrisons.
There’s also a brand new drinks trend taking over UK cafes, as Brits are becoming obsessed with Hojicha.
The green tea is becoming increasingly popular, as people are swapping matcha for the ‘more palatable’ Japanese drink, which has a milder, nuttier flavour.
