Holly Sutton departed for Australia as Emma Samms ended her original run on General Hospital, Nikki and Victor Newman (Melody Thomas Scott and Eric Braeden) remarried on Young and Restless, Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) tracked down Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) and freed her after she’d spent months in captivity on Days of Our Lives and other memorable soap moments that took place on September 5.
In 1985 on General Hospital, Holly Sutton Scorpio (Emma Samms) and her husband, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), shared an emotional good-bye as she exited for Australia, signalling the end of Samms's original run on the show, which kicked off in 1982. The actress would go on to make many return trips to the show over the years. Reflecting on leaving that first time, Samms told Soap Opera Digest in 2023, "You know, I would have stayed with this job for as long as they would have had me and never left if it wasn’t for the fact that I was offered the job on Dynasty [as Fallon]. I would never have gone away, because that job suited me down to the ground. I loved it."
In 2002, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) remarried on Young and Restless. After some soul-searching and examining his many failed romances, Victor had once again popped the question to Nikki and they returned to the Colonnade Room (where their original, 1984 wedding took place) for their third trip down the aisle. Victor received well-wishes from two of his ex-wives (Julia and Hope) on the morning of the wedding, at which the duo's daughter, Victoria, served as matron of honor and their son, Nick, was best man. When it came time for the bride and groom to kiss, rose petals rained down upon them.
In 2006, Jessica Buchanan’s (Bree Williamson) personality was integrated with that of her alter, Tess, on One Life To Live. While this came as a great relief to Jessica's loved ones, including Antonio (Kamar de los Reyes, r.), it was a crushing blow for Nash (Forbes March), who was in love with Tess and knew he had lost her for good. Jessica thanked Nash for how well he had treated Tess and gently tried to comfort him.
In 2016, Neil Winters's (Kristoff St. John) mother, Lucinda, passed away on Young and Restless due to heart failure. The role was played by Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek fame. For years, Neil thought his mother had abandoned him as a young boy because that’s the story his father had fed him. Earlier in 2016, Neil's grandchildren, Charlie and Mattie, were putting together the Winters family tree but got little information out of Neil when it came to Lucinda. Hilary confided in Lily that while she was married to Neil, she discovered that his mother had been sending him letters for years but he threw them away unread. Lily was able to track down her grandmother, who was very ill and in an assisted living facility for low-income senior citizens. Lily convinced Neil to visit Lucinda, who revealed that she left her family because she was an alcoholic. Fortunately, Neil and his mom were able to share a brief and meaningful reunion before she died.
In 2019 on Days of Our Lives, Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) and Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) had an emotional reunion after he managed to rescue her from the henchmen who had been holding her and her daughter, Holly, hostage at Kristen DiMera's behest (during which time Kristen had donned a high-tech mask of Nicole's face to masquerade as her). When he managed to overpower her captors and Nicole walked into the room, they fell into one another's arms.
