Nearly a year after the Dynamic Duo animated movie was first announced, a major update for the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation Studios project has finally been revealed. The Robin-centered movie hails from producers Matt Reeves and James Gunn.
Who is rewriting DC’s Dynamic Duo movie?
According to TheWrap, 500 Days of Summer and The Disaster Artist scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have been tapped to rewrite the screenplay of Dynamic Duo. The movie will be directed by Arthur Mintz, whose New Orleans-based animation studio, Swaybox, will handle its animation. It is produced by Gunn, Reeves, Peter Safran, and Theresa Andersson, with Michael Uslan serving as an executive producer.
The Dynamic Duo movie will center on the origins of two Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. To bring the characters to life, Swaybox will be using a blend of CGI animation, stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance, known as “Momo animation.” Despite Reeves’ involvement, the story will be separate from the filmmaker’s The Batman universe. At the moment, this isn’t the only upcoming DC Studios project that will feature another version of Robin. The Flash director Andy Muschietti will be directing DC Universe’s live-action Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, which centers around Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne.
This marks DC Studios’ latest animated project following the critical success of HBO Max’s Creature Commandos series. The studio is also developing an animated series adaptation of Blue Beetle, with Cobra Kai vet Xolo Maridueña expected to reprise the superhero from the 2023 live-action movie.
The movie is still set to premiere on June 30, 2028.
