Tom Holland talks ADHD, explains Lego’s message with Short film
Speaking to IGN, Tom Holland shared why the project’s message resonated with him. “I think it really does help,” he said. “I have ADHD and I’m dyslexic, and I find sometimes when someone gives me a blank canvas that it can be slightly intimidating. And sometimes you are met with those challenges when developing a character.”
He added, “Any way that you can, as a young person or as an adult, interact with something that forces you to be creative and forces you to think outside the box and make changes that might be in an instruction manual or might not be in an instruction manual just promotes healthy creativity. And I think that the more we do that sort of stuff, the better.”
Holland described his personal connection to LEGO, recalling competitions with his siblings and staging LEGO dinosaurs to avoid chores. He also remembered building a LEGO Death Star with Spider-Man: Homecoming co-star Jacob Batalon during the film’s early production.
His brothers highlighted how LEGO sets and video games encouraged family bonding away from screens, with Sam noting, “In a world where we’re surrounded by screens, it gets people off screens, it gets people talking to one another.” Holland added, “If you don’t tidy up Lego, it can be dangerous for your parents’ bare feet.”
He recently called filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day “exciting and exhilarating,” recalling a sequence in Glasgow atop a tank in front of thousands of fans (via Barron’s). The movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, will release on July 31, 2026.
