David Morrissey as Clive in Tip ToeThis article contains major spoilers for the Tip Toe finale.
British actor David Morrissey is reflecting on his performance in the Channel 4 series Tip Toe now its final episode is out in the world.
David stars opposite Alan Cumming in the Russell T Davies drama, which aired its harrowing final episode earlier this week.
Posting on Instagram on Wednesday, the former Walking Dead star said he hoped that people can take away from Tip Toe the importance of “empathy”, “kindness” and “understanding”, particularly in today’s world.
“The show is finished but the issues don’t go away,” David wrote, before encouraging his followers to “find out what unites us rather than what divides us” and “look for empathy and kindness and understanding”.
While he acknowledged that Tip Toe was a “harrowing show to watch”, he insisted that he and his colleagues “had some laughs along the way”, before thanking “all the cast and crew” for their contributions.
In Tip Toe, David plays Clive, a father of two grown-up sons who eventually commits a homophobic hate crime against Leo, played by Alan Cumming, whom he’s lived next door for the past 14 years.
Speaking to HuffPost UK ahead of its release, David said that the show – which touches on many thorny issues, including online radicalisation, the dangers of misinformation and the rise of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric – was a commentary on the world we now live in.
“You only need to look at the news now to know that we’re not talking about some vague future events,” the Bafta nominee claimed. “It’s right here, right now.”
