The fact that Timothy Olyphant’s best TV show earned a spinoff after its series finale proves just how iconic this underrated Neo-Western from Hulu really was. While the Yellowstone franchise gets a lot of credit for bringing the iconography of traditional Westerns to the world of contemporary crime thrillers, Taylor Sheridan’s show wasn’t the first series to pull off this trick. In fact, even Yellowstone’s period piece prequels, 1883 and 1923, owe a debt to one actor’s earlier HBO hit.
