If House of the Dragonhas taught audiences anything over the course of its two seasons, it's that the world of Westeros has always been bloody. While the show began at the peak of Targaryen rule, the stability of King's Landing has gradually regressed into a fraught conflict just as difficult to watch as the original Game of Thrones. The battle for Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) succession has already featured the maiming of several innocent dragons, crowds of roasted smallfolk, and heartless late-night assassins, as well as countless other moments that cement the harsh reality of the show's growing civil war. This brutality has only bolstered the dark reputation of the HBO Max series, which is why it's impressive that one scene from back in Season 1 was actually even more intense than it looked.
