What critics are saying about The Testaments
Critics have offered largely positive response to The Testaments. Early reviews highlight its focus on character relationships, visual presentation, and performances.

Lauren Thoman of The Wrap reported, “The Testaments moves by at an engaging pace, deftly jumping between its many intertwined subplots while thoughtfully exploring the nuanced relationships between its characters.” She also highlights the strength of the cast, noting that the performances, particularly from Infiniti and Halliday, stands out.
Writing for IGN, Tara Bennett describes the series as combination of Gossip Girl and The Handmaid’s Tale. She wrote, “The series is both fascinating and disturbing at how well it portrays the mundanity of fascist life.”
Bennett adds that the adaptation remains close to Margaret Atwood’s source material and benefits from strong performances. “Tonally, it takes some time to find its feet in following the day-to-day lives of its young Gilead women while the subject matter remains necessary – yet troubling – to watch,” she noted.
Jean Henegan of Pop Culture Maniacs noted, “The writing is good (if a bit on the nose), the acting is stellar (especially the core group of young women at its center), and the design of the show is perfectly terrifying.”
