The Rolling Stones are “nearly done” working on a new album, according to Keith Richards‘ son Marlon.

It marked their first full-length effort since 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang’, and earned them the ‘Best Rock Album’ award at the Grammys 2025.
‘Hackney Diamonds’ featured the last recordings of the band’s late drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021. The LP also included guest appearances from Lady Gaga, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.
This summer, it was reported that the Stones were working on a follow-up to that record and planning another string of huge live tour dates.
During an interview for the new Rolling Stones edition of Record Collector, actor and film producer Marlon Richards – son of guitarist Keith – was asked what the group were up to currently. “They’re in town right now, recording,” he responded.
“They’re in Chiswick [West London] or somewhere like that; I think they’re nearly done. They still maintain these ridiculous hours: after lunch until, like, two in the morning. I’d rather be somewhere else at that time of night! Unless you’re in it, it’s pretty boring.”

He was then pressed on what specifically the Stones were working on. “I guess an album – they have enough left over from the last one,” Richards replied.
“They gave them a Grammy, so now they’re all hyped up on that: ‘Oh, yeah – we can do another one like that! We’ve got more like that if you want…’. I think they’re doing the
follow-up.”
Richards then addressed the speculation about a forthcoming tour: “I think they’re planning a tour of Europe.” The interview with Record Collector was conducted back in May – buy your copy here.
Earlier this year, reports emerged that The Rolling Stones had scrapped plans to head out on tour in the UK and Europe due to scheduling issues.
The previous reports about a new album suggested that Jagger, Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Steve Jordan had been together since this April, and had completed 13 songs at Metropolis Studios in Chiswick.
At the time, it was claimed that the group were still in talks with their label over a release date for the record.
“Originally, the plan was for them to bring their huge US tour to the UK and Europe this summer but promoters couldn’t get the dates to work,” a source told The Sun. “Instead the Stones decided to get back into the studio and put down their next album. It’s massive for their fans who didn’t get a chance to see them live this year.”
Additionally, it was said that renowned producer Andrew Watt – who produced ‘Hackney Diamonds’, and co-wrote three songs – was working with the Stones again on their next LP.
As Record Collector notes, Marlon is Keith’s first child with the actor and model Anita Pallenberg. He now lives in Sussex, close to his father’s home – the Redlands country house estate in West Wittering.
Ahead of ‘Hackney Diamonds’ being released, Jagger told The New York Times that he wouldn’t consider it to be the “last Rolling Stones album”, because the members were already around “three-quarters through the next one”.
In November 2023, Keith Richards revealed there was “plenty more stuff left over”. He added: “There’ll always be another [album] until we drop… This is what we do. We’ve gotta see this Rolling Stones through.”
Ronnie Wood also spoke to NME around that time about the number of new songs the ‘Hackney Diamonds’ writing sessions had produced, and said that fans wouldn’t have to wait long to hear more music.
“[Paul McCartney] actually played on two tracks, one which we’ve got up our sleeve for, you know, more music to come,” he explained. “We cut about 23 songs and we only picked the first 12.”
‘Hackney Diamonds’ earned a four-star review from NME, which read: “These tunes continue to demonstrate that knack for bottling the core anxieties of the human experience – whatever age you are.” The LP also went to Number One on the UK albums chart.
Back in June, Ronnie Wood joined his former Faces bandmate Rod Stewart onstage at Glastonbury 2025.
