HBO’s Casey Bloys reflects on if The Pitt spin-off can happen
Casey Bloys revealed to Variety that a spin-off of The Pitt is unlikely. When asked about whether a spin-off that explores the night shift version of The Pitt was possible, he exclaimed, “No!” Bloys then talked about the plans behind developing a show like The Pitt.
“Listen, when we decided to move forward with The Pitt, the idea was we’re going to try this, and we’re going to develop other shows in this model,” the executive explained. “They don’t have to be a spinoff. But that model, I think The Pitt showed that it could work for us. So we’ve been developing other types of shows: a cop show, a family show, etc. We will be developing those and trying to do it again.”
Bloys stated that The Pitt was “lightning in a bottle,” underscoring how incredibly unique the series and its success are. He added, “So the idea that we’re going to do another one, that it’s going to work out, you never know. But it did prove that the model could work in streaming.”
The Pitt currently has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 80 reviews. The series won multiple accolades at this year’s Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Noah Wyle’s performance as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Katherine LaNasa’s outing as Dana Evans.
