When it comes to pre-mixed cocktails, M&S has long been the go-to for a tasty tipple.

But it seems they’ve now got some serious competition from a bargain rival, as Aldi has all the girlies running to the shop for its new drinks.

The German retailer recently brought back its range of pre-mixed spritzes, and for summer 2026 there are some new flavours.

But the best part? They cost just £3.99 for an entire bottle.

What are Aldi’s viral drinks?

Two cocktail drinks by Belletti are causing a real stir online: a classic Hugo Spritz and a Peach Spritz.

The Hugo contains aromatised wine, mixed with elderflower and mint, while the Peach one is a peach-flavoured sparkling aromatised wine.

Both are 6.9% ABV, so they’re quite light drinks and not incredibly strong alcoholic beverages.

The bottles cost £3.99 each, but for those who prefer a cocktail in a can, you can also buy them in 250ml cans for £1.29 a pop.

What are customers saying about them?

Shoppers have been going wild for the spritzes, racing to snap up the bottles and selling them out in many Aldi stores.

This is perhaps because of the reaction online, as on social media, the drinks have been hailed as ‘unreal’, ‘lush’, ‘gorgeous’, and ‘amazing’ by those who have tried them.

A TikTok user known as @inslusiwellness even went as far as to proclaim Aldi’s Hugo Spritz as better than the M&S one, writing: ‘Hugo Aldi version is sooooo much nicer than the M&S one.’

And they weren’t the only ones who felt this way, @teriimelda also compared the Aldi and M&S drinks and found she preferred the Aldi one as it was ‘sweeter’ and had a stronger elderflower taste.

Meanwhile, @TheIvyHouse commented that the Hugo Spritz was their ‘all-time favourite’ drink, sharing: ‘I can’t believe the price…. I picked this up for less than £4!! RUN to Aldi.’

They added: ‘When I say this drink is refreshing, I mean this drink literally makes you want to savour every mouthful. Summery, fresh, and blooming delicious!’

Others have been buying the cheap drinking and making it ‘bougie’ by adding extras into the mix.

Ellie (@elliemcadams5), for instance, shared a video showing how she’s been drinking hers, adding ice, mint and some cucumber into wine glasses, before pouring over the Hugo Spritz and then topping up with some prosecco.

Some people have also added lemonade or soda water to the spritzes, instead of prosecco.

Not everyone has been quite so keen on the drinks, however, as some found them ‘too sweet’, and also quite ‘weak’ at less than 7%.

@ajhome2000 admitted: ‘I wasn’t impressed, I found [the Hugo Spritz] weak and tasteless.’

Similarly, @charlsclosed_xo said: ‘I love a Hugo, but it honestly doesn’t taste like it. Tastes like a white wine.’

What’s Metro’s verdict?

I got my hands on both of the viral Spritzes and gave them a try, in the name of journalism.

Both drinks taste nice on their own, but adding in extras really does take them to another level.

Poured straight from the bottle over ice, the Peach Spritz is very sweet and fruity. It’s perfect for those who love an alcoholic beverage that doesn’t taste like it contains any alcohol.

But if you’d prefer to tone down the sweetness and make it a little stronger, topping this up with a dry prosecco would make a world of difference.

The Hugo Spritz is also quite sweet but has a stronger wine taste than the peach, so instead of prosecco, I added some sparkling water to this one, as well as some lime. These were all things I already had in the house, so it didn’t cost me anything extra, but it made for a slightly more interesting sip.

Are these the best drinks I’ve ever had? No, I can’t say that they are.

But they’re cheap and cheerful, and at £3.99 a bottle, I can totally see why people are enjoying them – they’re very easy to drink, they’re not going to get you drunk too quickly, and a spritz just screams summer.

So if you’re looking for something to enjoy in the sunshine, I’d say you can’t really go wrong with one (or both) of these.
