Metro Checks In to Liberty Lykia, a five-star, all-inclusive hotel fit for a King (or Queen).

On my first trip to Turkey, I was spoiled and surprised.

Stepping into Liberty Lykia in Fethiye, you’re transported to an oasis of Turkish opulence, with rich terracotta tones and indulgent refreshments.

I’m a fan of all-inclusive resorts, but I have never been to one where the food, drinks, service, and facilities make you feel like royalty.

The winding pathways make you feel like you’re in a bubble, and the tranquil environment wraps you up in decadent seclusion that could help even the most stressed among us to instantly relax.

The hotel prides itself on its perch on the coastline of Ölüdeniz, a resort village known for its viral blue lagoon on Turkey’s southwest coast.

And, after a 75-minute taxi drive from Dalaman airport, I realised why.

The resort is sandwiched between mountains and sea. It bills itself as ‘a sophisticated escape in the magnificence of nature’, and really, it is just that.

The best way to get there would be to pre-book a private transfer, which costs about £53 with companies such as DM Transfers. You can choose to wing it when you’re there; however, these taxis can cost you more.

Vibe check

The interior is modelled on a traditional Turkish Ottoman Townhouse, with a combination of wooden and stone features. The design doesn’t scream glitz; instead, it provides a welcoming and calming atmosphere.

Outside, you’re met with a horizon of sparkling sea and jungle-like vegetation. Golden hour is when the resort comes to life as the sunset’s glow glimmers through the trees.

Take your pick of five pools, plus the beach. The main pool is where you can enjoy activities such as darts or water aerobics. Plunge down waterslides, take a break from the sun with their indoor pool, or avoid all distractions at the silent pool.

I visited the Ocean Spa and chose an hour-long full-body deep tissue massage, and participated in an Anatolian tradition with their exclusive Hammam ritual, where you lie on a marble slab and receive a full-body scrub, soak, and massage.

You can sign up for wellbeing workshops such as morning yoga and face fitness sessions during your stay. I recommend planning your trip for when Bovisaj is holding a retreat, as this is what I did, and I found them brilliant.

Accommodation

The resort has 270 rooms, all labelled as deluxe, and you can choose whether you want a partial sea, full sea, or garden view. In addition to this, they also have suites and family rooms, so everyone is catered for.

Mine was a deluxe with a partial sea view, which is an entry-level room. Alongside the queen-size bed, there was a single and ample space, much more than I expected.

I fell in love with the view as you could perch on your balcony and watch the waves roll in, while taking in the breathtaking scale of the mountains surrounding you.

Besides this, my favourite area had to be the wardrobe space.

Situated next to the bathroom, it is the most wardrobe/ storage space I’ve had in a hotel. There was an abundance of hangers, no measly seven, with a large two-rail wardrobe, storage compartments, drawers, and two spaces opposite to hang more and store your luggage.

One detail that I wasn’t sure about is that the door to the bathroom has a gap and is frosted glass, so if you’re someone who likes complete privacy, then you might want to put on a distraction.

Food and drink

The hotel has four bars and seven a la carte restaurants, each providing a variation of Turkish delicacies, and food-lovers’ favourites such as steaks, seafood and pasta. If you have allergies, the chefs will cater accordingly.

Dig into some standout dishes (Picture: Scott Da Silver-Wells)

The standout was Balbura Steak Restaurant. If you’re a meat-eater, this is the place for you. I tried the beef tenderloin, and it surpassed what my taste buds were expecting. They also do insane burgers for a snack during the day.

The Myros restaurant is buffet-style, which is similar to those in other all-inclusive hotels. Everything was cooked fresh, so nothing was left sitting on the hot plates. Breakfast was my favourite part, with yoghurts to burritos and local meats, cheeses, and pastries.

Satisfy your sweet tooth with an abundance of desserts at the Patisserie. I recommend trying either the Lemon dessert or the baked cheesecake.

Stellar service

The staff were constantly on hand to help you with anything you needed, such as directions to one of the many pools.

One of the main standouts of the staff’s excellence was the efforts they went to celebrate my husband’s and my first wedding anniversary.

We opened the door to our room and were met with confetti and balloons scattered over the floor, four were fixed to the ceiling with streams of ribbon hanging from them, where pictures from our wedding had been printed.

A bottle of sparkling wine and a cake had been baked especially for us.
