The Chainsmokers join forces with Swedish songstress Oaks for an emotive retelling of her fiery love story.

Graduating from the radio-centric hits that positioned them as one of the largest electronic duos in the world, The Chainsmokers have continued their evolution with the release of the Love Is Kind EP. A follow-up to their 2025 EP Breathe, the six-track effort sees the pair dive deeper into melodic-driven tracks while channeling their roots.

Featuring vocals from singer-songwriter Johanna Ekmark under the alias Oaks, this release builds upon the relationship formed in writing 2018’s “Hope,” where she lent her talents as Winona Oak. Drawing inspiration from an intoxicating love story, the EP is a cinematic retelling of Oaks’ personal experiences brought to life by The Chainsmokers’ stirring soundscapes.

Love Is Kind throws listeners into the depths of Oaks’ romance on “Echo.” Infused with stutter house flavor and progressive house melodies, the lead single tells the story of being enamored with someone to the point of no return. Written in the mountains of Norway, Oaks’ candid reflection sets the stage for the ongoing story that carries throughout the labor of love.

The cohesive EP continues the story of Oak’s all-consuming love on “Already Know.” Building upon the foundation, the relationship has reached a standstill with both parties shying away from fully expressing the intensity of their feelings for one another.

A standout on the EP, “Five Past Three” is an emotional masterpiece that evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of The Chainsmokers’ earlier work. Capturing the feeling of prolonging saying goodbye at the end of the night, fans get a taste of Taggart’s vocals as both he and Oaks ask, “Where we going now?”

Tension builds on the title track. Exuding mainstage energy, it features a darker, higher-intensity soundscape than previous tracks. Calling out to “Show me how you really feel” and “Tell me that you feel the same,” the song feels like a conversation born from a breaking point for Oaks as she begs for clarity. Then, the tumultuous journey ends as the energy lightens on “Wild.” After Oaks divulges her true emotions, she finds herself in a relationship she never wants to end.

Across Love Is Kind’s six distinct tracks, The Chainsmokers capture the magic of their early tracks while finding a sound that resonates for 2026. While much of the duo’s more recent releases feel like they’re written to feed trends, the new EP shows off the duo’s innate ability to build sonic worlds as they find their stride once again within dance music.
