The Big Bang Theory universe just expanded with a surprise familiar face joining Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. The upcoming HBO Max spinoff revealed a fan-favorite actor’s return in a new sizzle reel ahead of its July premiere.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe casts major Big Bang Theory actor
Wil Wheaton makes his return to the Big Bang Theory universe in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Deadline reports.
HBO Max dropped a new sizzle reel on Sunday revealing the actor’s brief cameo in the spinoff. Wheaton appears at the 30-second mark inside Stuart’s comic book store. He blasts an energy beam directly at Stuart, Denise, Bert and Kripke in the quick scene.
The actor previously recurred as a heightened version of himself throughout the original series. Wheaton notably appeared in 17 episodes across seasons 3 through 12 of The Big Bang Theory. His cameo now further ties the spinoff back to its predecessor.
Meanwhile, Kevin Sussman leads the new series as comic book store owner Stuart Bloom. Stuart accidentally triggers a multiverse Armageddon after breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard. He then works to restore reality alongside his girlfriend Denise, played by Lauren Lapkus. Additionally, Brian Posehn plays geologist friend Bert, while John Ross Bowie portrays quantum physicist Barry Kripke.
Throughout the series, the group encounters alternate-universe versions of beloved Big Bang Theory characters. As the title itself hints, Stuart’s mission does not exactly succeed.
On the production side, Chuck Lorre writes and executive produces the spinoff with Zak Penn and Bill Prady. Lorre co-created Big Bang and has executive produced all of its spinoffs to date. Prady also served as co-creator on the original series. In addition, Danny Elfman composed original theme music for the show. The composer has earned Emmy, Grammy and Oscar nomination recognition throughout his career.
Chuck Lorre Productions produces the series in association with Warner Bros. Television. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe premieres this July and will stream on HBO Max.
