2026 has been one of the more exciting years for Star Wars fans in recent history, as it’s the first time since 2019 that the franchise has released a movie to the big screen. After its years of development, it's safe to say there was some anticipation for The Mandalorian and Grogu, but the hype didn’t carry over to box office results. At the time of writing, the film has grossed $328 million at the global box office, and it's expected to finish its run as the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history. It was a completely different story for Maul — Shadow Lord, the first Star Wars Disney Plus show of the year that earned widespread acclaim from critics and fans. Disney has already confirmed that Season 2 is in the works and that the wait for the next season won’t be overly long.
