Academy Award nominee Paul Mescal has opened up about director Sam Mendes’ highly anticipated The Beatles biopic, which is described as a four-film cinematic event. Each movie will revolve around the story of one member. All four movies are expected to be released in April 2028.
What did Paul Mescal say about his preparation for The Beatles movie?
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Mescal shared a few details about his ongoing preparation to play Paul McCartney in the upcoming The Beatles multi-biopic. He also confirmed that the main cast, including Joseph Quinn (George Harrison), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), and Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), have started their studio rehearsals for the project.
“Average day is: We get up, we go out to Bobbington — which is about an hour and a quarter drive — listening to the Beatles in the car,” He said. “Then we go in, and we try to walk, talk, play, think like the Beatles. Then we get in the car, listen to the Beatles, and go home.”
Due to the intensity of his personality, the Gladiator II star admitted that he has been “obsessive” about his role preparation, especially when it requires him to perform and sound like a living music legend. In addition, to better portray Paul McCartney, he also revealed that he’s learning how to play the guitar left-handed.
“I’m obsessed with the Beatles at the moment,” Mescal shared. “It’s part of my job, but it’s also the way that my brain is wired. I’m excited about listening to music, writing music, absorbing music, going to shows, all of these things — they start with an intensity with the job and then kind of become my personality for a bit.”
“It would just be crazy to not play it left-handed, you know?” He continued. “You’re like, ‘Nah. I like [McCartney] a lot, but I don’t love him.’ That would be the messaging if I didn’t play left-handed. And he’s the fucking coolest man on planet Earth, I think.”
