Netflix has dropped plenty of splashy thrillers that burn bright for a weekend and then vanish into the algorithm swamp, but Thrashlooks like it has more bite than that. The new shark horror movie has caught on fast, helped by a ridiculous survival hook that was always going to play well with streaming audiences looking for something nasty and fun. It also got a pretty huge boost from Stephen King, who shouted it out online with the line, “THRASH (Netflix): Best line of the year (so far): ‘Mommy’s got to go to work.’” That’s the kind of pull quote a genre movie would kill for, and it arrives just as the film sits at No. 1 on Netflix’s global movie chart.
