Star-Lord has had an interesting role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years. Initially, Peter Quill/Star-Lord was introduced on screen in Guardians of the Galaxy as yet another addition to the long line of hot-shot MCU characters with huge egos but (secretly) hearts of gold. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released just a few years later and added quite a bit more complexity to Star-Lord's story by revealing that his previously mysterious biological father, ironically actually named Ego, was a Celestial—a god-like being—who had killed his mother because he loved her too much.
