“Spider-Man” Tracks For Huge Second Weekend

Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is on track for a $143-150 million second weekend at the box-office domestically.

That puts it in the running to take the record for the best domestic second weekend haul, with the current record holder being “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with $149.2 million, followed by “Avengers: Endgame” with $147.3 million.

It’s also the first time a Sony movie has cleared $100 million in a second weekend. The studio’s previous second weekend high was the prior film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” at $84.5 million.

One change is that IMAX screens are being added back in this weekend and they, along with PLF screens, are driving 33% of the weekend haul. The film also has the highest 10-day gross in the history of the domestic box office at $653 million so far.

“The Odyssey” will come in second with $28.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $458.1 million so far. While everyone is either checking out “Spider-Man” or still catching “The Odyssey,” everyone else is failing.

Universal’s weird concept rom-com “One Night Only” landed at $6 million for the weekend with a concerning B+ CinemaScore. That’s better than “Super Troopers 3” which is headed for an opening weekend of less than $4 million – considerably down on the first two films.

Both are also going better than Eli Roth’s “Ice Cream Man” with an estimated $2 million start, not helped by scathing reviews.
