Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s Liza Colón-Zayas has teased her mysterious role in the upcoming film in a recent interview. She also glancingly touched on the film’s darker direction.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, The Bear star indirectly referred to Marvel’s strict NDA policy by saying she couldn’t reveal much about her role. “I could just say I play a detective,” she added. She then teased the darker narrative direction, familiar to fans thanks to trailers and plot information that surfaced.

Also in the interview, the 53-year-old gushed about Tom Holland and Zendaya. “They’re beautiful together,” Colón-Zayas said of their relationship. “You know, they’re just individually and together generous. And beautiful and kind. I’m so proud to know them.”

It’s currently unclear who Colón-Zayas is playing. Familiar insider Daniel Ritchman claimed several months ago that she is playing Cathy, a sidekick to Spider-Man.

However, known scooper Cryptic HD Quality alleged she is Agent Delores Ramirez. In the comics, she is a CIA agent working in the X-Desk department, formed to control mutants. With Sadie Sink rumored to be playing Jean Grey, a mutant, this rumor seemingly holds some weight.

However, some fans suggested in the comments that she could be playing Jean DeWolff, a prominent Spider-Man ally in the comics. Meanwhile, one believed she could essay Terri Lee, who appeared in 1994’s Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

Needless to say, this is all simply rumors and speculation. This is because Marvel has not issued official information about the actress’ character.

The movie swings into theaters on July 31, 2026. Destin Daniel Cretton directed from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and Justin Kuritzkes.

“It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control,” the official synopsis reads.

It continues, “But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”
