After taking a decade-long sabbatical to focus on his duties as the governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger made an acting comeback in 2013. He didn't return with a reboot of one of his evergreen franchises, although he'd star in a new Terminator movie only two years later. Instead, Schwarzenegger's comeback vehicle was a neo-Western action film directed by an internationally acclaimed filmmaker making his Hollywood debut. It featured a co-star who was taking a massive creative risk by playing against type, and was generally well-received by critics. However, the movie underperformed at the box office, setting the stage for an uneven decade for the Governator.
