A fresh look at Sekiro: No Defeat is finally here. Crunchyroll has dropped a new trailer, giving fans a clearer idea of how the popular video game will transform into a full anime series.
Sekiro trailer teases what to expect from new anime
The upcoming anime adapts Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the 2019 hit from FromSoftware. The story follows a lone shinobi named Wolf, who sets out to rescue his kidnapped lord during Japan’s Sengoku period. The new trailer highlights this journey, showing intense combat, dark landscapes, and the emotional weight behind Wolf’s mission.
Director Kenichi Kutsuna said the team worked hard to stay close to the original game while still making it fit a TV format. “We tried to take as many elements from the underlying work of the game as possible,” he told Variety, adding that using every detail would be “impossible and very difficult.”
Fans had raised concerns since the project was announced at Gamescom in 2025. Many questioned how a challenging, player-driven game could translate into a linear series. Kutsuna acknowledged that pressure, saying the audience would examine the show closely. He added that the team aimed to maintain quality so it would not “tarnish” the franchise’s reputation.
“I think there’s a lot of unexpected elements that you really can’t plan for when developing a project of this nature, but I think I still remain confident that we’ve done what we could to do justice to the franchise,” Kutsuna explained.
Meanwhile, composer Shuta Hasunuma emphasized how music will help shape emotion and atmosphere in this version. The series marks the first time FromSoftware’s work is adapted into an on-screen project, making expectations even higher ahead of its Crunchyroll debut.
For those out of the loop, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice stands as one of the top action-adventure titles of its era. FromSoftware built the game around intense, skill-heavy combat. It focuses on timing, precision, and posture mechanics instead of the usual health bar system. Every fight pushes players to learn enemy patterns and react with accuracy. The game also went on to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019.
