Science Fiction and Fantasy Series Wrapping Up in 2026

Let’s kick things off with a personal favorite, one of my most anticipated reads of the year, because 13 years after the Villains series began, we’re finally getting the finale! The story begins with Vicious, and it follows former college roommates Eli and Victor. Back then, they were obsessed with the idea of EO’s, people who gained superpowers after surviving near-death experiences. Fast forward to ten years later, when Victor breaks out of prison seeking revenge. What happened between the former friends? And who will be left alive after they face each other?

Moving on to a fun and romantic fantasy trilogy! Book one, Faebound, tells the story of two elven sisters named Yeeran and Lettle—a warrior and a diviner, respectively. Their lives are forever changed when Yeeran makes a fatal mistake, and the sisters are forced to leave the Elven lands. This leads her to the terrifying wilderness beyond their borders, where the sisters encounter the fae court. The fae haven’t been seen for a millennium, and their involvement might tear Yeeran and Lettle apart. Why, you ask? You’ll have to read it to find out!

The story of Alex Stern, which began in 2019, is finally coming to an end! This dark academia fantasy series began with Ninth House. In it, and against all odds, Alex joins the ranks of Yale’s freshman class on a full ride. She was actually given this opportunity because she has a rare ability, one that makes her very valuable to one of the university’s secret societies. They do all kinds of occult stuff, and Alex is one of the people tasked with keeping an eye on them. So when their dealings turn out to be more sinister than she imagined, Alex will have to step up to avoid losing the new life she was given. 

Next, if you haven’t read this epic fantasy trilogy, you should definitely add it to your TBR! Inspired by the pre-colonial empires of West Africa, it’s a super unique book about power and those who wield it. The story began with Son of the Storm, and it follows a scholar named Danso. He might be close to discovering something great, but all he cares about are the forbidden stories of what lies outside the city walls. Enter a warrior who can use magic that shouldn’t exist and a fateful meeting that will send Danso down a path into the darkest corners (and secrets) of his city.

If you love romantasy novels with an enemies-to-lovers theme, then you should definitely check out Thea Guanzon’s debut trilogy! The books, which began with The Hurricane Wars, tell the story of Talasyn and Alaric. She has found a new family among the freedom fighters, while he is the emperor’s heir. The two have powerful but opposing magical abilities and represent the same fight between light and dark that began the war in the first place—a dangerous combination that could end both their lives. But when another threat appears, they realize they must learn to work together if they want to save their world. 

Last but certainly not least, I want to end this list with a series of novellas that seamlessly blend sci-fi and fantasy (along with West African culture) to tell an incredible story. Plus, the last installment is already out, so you can marathon them all right now! She Who Knows tells the story of a young girl named Najeeba. She’s barely 13 years old, and she has had The Call. The age is strange in and of itself, but only men and boys have gotten the call in the history of her village. Nevertheless, Najeeba leaves her family behind to join the Salt Roads—an adventure that will change everything for her and those she loves for generations.
