The sixth film in the horror spoof franchise, titled simply Scary Movie, takes aim at ICE raids, MeToo, the Epstein Files, the Kendrick-Drake beef and much more. Original star Faris returned to the series 20 years after her last appearance in Scary Movie 4, and had a very specific idea of what her character, Cindy Campbell, had become in that time.

“I was always pushing for Cindy to be classic MAGA rabbit hole,” she told Dexerto. “The kind of person that you saw outside of the Walmart during quarantine that was raising some kind of crazy-ass fuss.”

Given the intended conservative leanings, she then revealed she included a joke based on Melania Trump’s Be Best campaign, a much-criticised anti-bullying initiative. “There was a moment where I am getting wasted, like so drunk… I am in my truck and I look into the rear-view mirror and I say, ‘Be Best, Cindy Campbell. Be Best,’. That didn’t make it, but I liked my little winking there.”

Commenting on the movie’s overall humour, she added: “You know, what are you gonna do? You gonna be mad at Cindy? I’m in a movie that is truly the most offensive movie ever made, and I’m the lead of it. And I participate in offensive ideas. I think I can kind of do anything. It liberated me.”

NME’s review of the film called it “horrifyingly unfunny”. “You’d think the so-called ‘elevated horror’ of arty genre movies such as Get Out and Hereditary would leave the Wayans crew with plenty to skewer,” wrote Jordan Bassett. “In fact, a spoof of the former movie spirals into a KPop Demon Hunters riff so bizarre it left the audience scratching their heads at the screening NME attended.”
