Scandinavia holds off Rahiebb as No 3 jockey Tom Marquand takes St Leger

Aidan O’Brien collects 16th Group One win of the season

Marquand was in place of Ryan Moore and Wayne Lordan

Aidan O’Brien’s Scandinavia, the 2-1 favourite, held off the late charge of Rahiebb (14-1) by a neck to give Europe’s pre-eminent trainer his 16th Group One win of the season in the St Leger, the season’s final Classic.

Scandinavia had been joined at the head of the betting by his stable companion Lambourn, the Derby winner, earlier in the day but late money for Tom Marquand’s mount was rewarded as the jockey made maximum use of his mount’s proven stamina.
