Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) is Coronation Street’s girl next door gone bad. Not only is she a murderer, but she’s about to pin the killing on the man who helped her get away with it – Gary Windass (Mikey North).
How much of a dark horse is Sarah?
This woman stood by and watched as Weatherfield’s finest grilled six of her fellow Street residents who found themselves accused of killing abusive bully Theo Silverton – including Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), her best friend and long-suffering victim of the monster – all the while knowing full well that she was the one who did the deed.
Week after week, one suspect after another fell under the spotlight of suspicion. Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson), George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins). All of them had their reasons for wanting the sinister scaffolder six feet under.
However, Sarah was conspicuous by her absence from the suspect list.
Somebody who was not absent, however, was her ex-boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North).
A notorious bully-basher, Gary was sickened to learn from Sarah that the man he’d employed and befriended had been making Todd’s life a living hell behind closed doors. Which is of course, why he smashed up Theo’s van with a sledgehammer on the day he died… only to sneak back and delete the footage once he realised how suspicious that made him look.
Regardless, Gary remained the number one suspect for investigating officer DS Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who is not only Sarah’s boyfriend, but is as bent as a nine bob note. The corrupt copper is not above playing fast and loose with the law to protect his loved ones and punish his enemies.
Needless to say, he was not too thrilled to see that Sarah and Gary had been growing awfully close. But while it looked like the two old flames were rekindling their passion, the truth was far more unsettling.
On the night of the murder, Sarah had a terrifying confrontation with Theo on the roof where the monster tried to attack her. She struck him with a pipe in self defence, sending Theo plummeting off the scaffolding and onto the Cobbles to his death.
The first person she called was Gary, who helped her dispose of the body. After all, it wasn’t his first time. The bad boy builder’s had blood on his hands before.
After Gary’s partner Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) got the wrong end of the stick and accused Sarah of cheating with her man during the world’s most awkward dinner party, fans were stunned when the true murderer was finally revealed.
So far, only viewers know the truth. But that’s about to change in this week’s trip to the Cobbles, where Sarah confesses her crime to Kit. It goes without saying, her less-than-honest copper is going to do everything he can to keep his missus out of jail – including frame Gary. The question is… will Sarah let him?
After witnessing a nasty row on the streets between Gary and Maria,Kit tells Lisa (Vicky Myers) he is suspicious of their behaviour. Lisa reminds him he is off the case.
Meanwhile, an upset Maria confides in Sarah that her marriage is falling apart. Sick with guilt, Sarah can’t keep this secret anymore but Gary begs her to keep quiet otherwise he could go to prison.
In this new video, we see the moment Sarah arrives home to find Kit has cooked a romantic lunch. As Kit mentions how Sarah has been struggling since her attack, he reflects on their relationship and how she deserves love, happiness and security.
To Sarah’s shock, Kit then gets down on one knee and proposes!
Overcome, Sarah finds herself confessing to Theo’s murder.
What will Kit say? Is the proposal still a-go?
Regardless of Sarahs answer, Kit is standing by his woman when he heads down the police station and studies the evidence board relating to Theo’s murder.
After gathering what evidence he could, Kit warns Sarah that her freedom is in Gary’s hands and she needs to get hold of his phone so they can delete any data which might incriminate her. Is Sarah actually going to frame the man that covered for her in her darkest hour?
Apparently! Because Kit secretly calls the guy tasked with wiping the data from Gary’s phone and asks him to forward any information he can find to his personal email address. And later on the street, DC McLaughlin (Michelle Tate) tells Lisa that they’re ready to arrest Theo’s murderer.
It seems like Sarah just gave Gary a one-way ticket to a jail cell… courtesy of Kit.
