With Rooster being renewed for a second season by HBO, now is the perfect time to give the show’s first season a shot.

Rooster is a new comedy series created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. Having premiered just last month, the show stars Steve Carell as Greg Russo, Danielle Deadwyler as Dylan Shepard, Phil Dunster as Archie, Charly Clive as Katie Russo, Lauren Tsai as Sunny, and John C. McGinley as Walter Mann.

Why should Steve Carell fans watch Rooster Season 1?

It was announced earlier today that HBO was officially renewing Rooster for a second season. Given that the first season hasn’t even finished being released yet and that this is a project not based on already pre-existing IP, it means the company is pleased with how the show is being received and confident that it’ll continue to bring in viewers.

Indeed, when announcing the renewal, the network also confirmed that Rooster is on pace to become the most-watched freshman HBO in over a decade. It has averaged 5.8 million viewers across its first four episodes.

The reviews from Rooster have been very positive, as the show currently has an 88 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. More specifically, some are saying that this is Carell’s best TV show since The Office, and are praising it for having a lot of heart and depth.

If that’s not enough reason to tune into Rooster, Lawrence’s track record with TV shows is something to note, too, as he is either the creator or co-creator of titles like Scrubs, Clone High, Ted Lasso, and Shrinking. Those shows all have huge fan bases and went on for multiple seasons, meaning Rooster could certainly go past Season 2 as well, if it continues to get good ratings.

The first four episodes of Rooster are currently available to stream on HBO Max. New episodes of the 10-episode season premiere on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on HBO, and are available on HBO Max after.
