Nigel Farage, right, leader of Reform UK speaks at a press conference alongside Robert Jenrick Reform's Shadow Chancellor, in London, Thursday, April 2, 2026. Robert Jenrick has insisted Nigel Farage will lead Reform into the next election, despite Piers Morgan’s claim that he is “dead in the water”.
The broadcaster said on Sunday that the right-wing party is “in real trouble” because of Farage’s failure to deal with questions about the £5 million gift he received from a Thailand-based crypto billionaire shortly before he ran to become an MP.
Parliamentent’s standards watchdog has launched an investigation into Farage’s failure to declare it.
“I think their leader’s going to have to go,” Morgan told the BBC.
Farage had a bizarre on-screen meltdown last week while being quizzed about the donation.
On Sky News this morning, Jenrick was asked by Sophy Ridge if Farage would lead Reform into the next election, which may not be until 2029.
He replied: “Yes.”
Asked about Morgan’s comments, Reform’s Treasury spokesman said: “So Piers Morgan’s word is gospel on this?
“I don’t know who Piers has talked to, but I can tell you Nigel created Reform, there is no dispute over Nigel’s leadership of the party, he is someone who’s been incredibly consistent on the big issues facing this country for a very long time.
“He will provide the strong leadership that the country needs.”
Jenrick, who defected from the Tories in January, said the £5m Farage received was “a personal gift before he was a member of parliament” and can spend it on anything he likes.
He added: “It’s an individual receiving a private gift when they were not in public life and that is entirely within the rules.”
