After yet another year of breaking records in the WNBA, A’ja Wilson is heading home with some historic hardware.
The Las Vegas Aces superstar has been named the 2025 WNBA MVP, becoming the first player in league history to achieve the honour four times, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Sunday.
Wilson was her usual unstoppable self on both ends, averaging 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.3 blocks while shooting 50.5 per cent from the field and a career-high 42.4 per cent from three-point range.
She led the league in points and blocks per game and became the first player in league history to average 20 points and 10 rebounds in multiple seasons after also doing so in 2024.
Past just her impact on the boxscore, Wilson steered the Aces to a 30-14 regular-season record, courtesy of a ridiculous 16-game win streak to close out the season and vault them into second place in the crowded Western Conference.
Over that span, Wilson upped her numbers to averages of 26.1 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.3 blocks while shooting 52.7 per cent from the field and 59.3 per cent from deep.
In half of those wins, Wilson scored 30 or more points, bringing her season total for 30-point games to 13 — the most ever in a single WNBA campaign.
The 29-year-old put up the highest usage rate (31.9) in the WNBA to help carry the Aces, all while staying as efficient as ever with a league-leading 33.4 player efficiency rating.
Her impact on both ends of the court also vaulted her to her third Defensive Player of the Year award, co-winning it with Minnesota Lynx forward Alanna Smith.
With her fourth MVP win, Wilson broke a tie with Hall of Famers Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Lauren Jackson and vaulted her into a stratosphere of her own.
Wilson and the Aces are hoping to translate that regular-season momentum into a deep playoff run. They knocked off the Seattle Storm in three games in the first round and are set to tip off a series against the Indiana Fever for a spot in the WNBA Finals.
