Redfreya opens a new chapter for Anomaly Music with The Waves, a three-track EP fusing psychedelic and jazz-inflected house music.
Rising house artist Redfreya makes music that starts with a feeling. Inspired by moments of wonder and fascinated by life’s deeper mysteries, she channels those questions into her production that fuses psychedelic house and cinematic beats. Classically trained in piano, flute, and voice, the London-based talent brings a rare musicality to electronic music, one shaped by a deep grounding in jazz.
Her latest release arrives in the form of the hypnotic three-track EP, The Waves, out on Anomaly Music. The title track combines rhythmic drum patterns and melodic, groovy beats that keep the momentum flowing, while “Running” follows with thumping percussion and a driving sense of progression, keeping the energy high. The final track, “Daylight Saving,” rounds things off with sparkling synth work and an uplifting bounce.
‘The Waves’ is inspired by the bittersweet feeling that happiness is always fleeting…even as we arrive in the happy or euphoric moment, we are already leaving – you can’t stay in that place. But you can keep returning there, again and again. I’ve tried to capture this wistful mood in the melodic hook of the track.
RedfreyaThe release of Redfreya’s The Waves also marks the launch of Anomaly Music, the collective curated by Nick Berry, Harry Hooper, and Panthera Krause. Their beloved radio show, Anomaly Radio, wrapped up its six-year run last month, but the label launch confirms that it’s not a farewell just yet, with fans already celebrating the next chapter of music that will continue to evolve and reach new audiences.
Over the past six years, Anomaly has built a reputation for charting the “beautiful obscurities” of electronic music across radio and live shows, digital magazine, and global events. Along the way, they’ve also collaborated with artists such as Reznik, Marcus Worgull, Whitesquare, Andhim, Super Flu, Argia, and more, bringing takeover parties and curated programming to world-class venues across Berlin, Melbourne, and Sydney.
This time, Redfreya’s collaboration with Anomaly reflects a shared vision of bringing soul, melody, and depth to electronic. She shared, “I’m honoured to be the debut label release for Anomaly Music. I’ve followed them for a long time and always felt inspired by what they stand for, their vision, sound, and aesthetic, so it felt like a natural fit to work together.”
