Sony quietly rolled out PS4 system softwate update 13.00 alongside today’s major PS5 firmware update that added new features. Unlike the PS5, however, the PS4 didn’t get anything noteworthy, which is to be expected at this point in the console’s life cycle.
PS4 system software update 13.00 patch notes (September 17, 2025)
“We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens,” reads the official notice on PlayStation’s website.
This time, there are no “security” fixes, which is another way of saying that Sony’s still combating jailbreaking and hacking. The last security update was released back in July with version 12.52.
Over the last week, Sony rolled out quite a few firmware updates, but the company only chose to detail the PS5 system update. As previously reported, both the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds were updated alongside the PlayStation Link USB adapter.
Sony still hasn’t explained what these firmware updates were all about, but some players are reporting fewer disconnection issues following the patches. However, there aren’t enough reports to come to that conclusion, and we think that the updates may have something to do with Sony introducing audio management features on PC for both accessories.
As a reminder, bundled with the new PS5 system software is a new DualSense/DualSense Edge firmware.
At the time of this writing, there are no new updates for PSVR2, PS Portal, or PS3 (yes, it’s still being updated).
