Level-5 kicked off TGS 2025 with another game delay, as it announced Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is delayed out of 2025. It will now launch in 2026. It didn’t have any exact release window or date ahead of this reveal. However, while it is now pushed back, the company did share a new trailer and confirm it is in the Future Division category in the Japan Game Awards.
This 2025 release window for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam first came up in November 2023, and it hadn’t been delayed or changed until now. Still, we hadn’t seen much of it prior to this latest trailer, and it wasn’t discussed as frequently as other recent Level-5 releases like the already available Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time or upcoming Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road.
Meanwhile, the new TGS 2025 trailer is only available in Japanese now, with Luke Triton narrating it, and it shows the setting in America. It’s an industrial city with steam-powered vehicles, and it features the same sepia tones as past entries. At about the 40 second mark, we see the more mature Luke alongside his mentor, Professor Hershel Layton. Mio Imada plays the student, while Yo Oizumi is the teacher. We see them interact with characters, move around town, talk to people, and go through some initial puzzles.
Here’s the full trailer. English and Chinese subtitles will eventually be added.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will come to the Switch and Switch 2, and the game will be out sometime in 2026.
